Quicklinks: Overview ~ Print in Progress ~ Print Data ~ Support Settings

The third story of the cottage which is entirely optional to print (using V2 2nd story roof version) I printed for one of the cottages. I opted to print the version that had the attached gable or attic on the top of the roof. The second option for the third story version would be to just have a plain roof which I personally considered just plain boring. Data provided for this print log includes the 3rd story V2 roof structure however renders of the V1 roof pieces are displayed for documentation purposes.

All pieces printed were using my standard support settings in Cura 4.8.0.

Major difference in FDM printing than provided files!

For printing this section of the building I did opt to print the section in pieces as opposed to one entirely put together section. The FDM files do provide both versions of the 3rd story in complete sections for printing. However I decided to NOT use these files but rather the resin STLs most predominately due to not having a confident 1st layer of this floor. The 3rd floor is printed at an angle to sit on top of the 2nd story roof and therefore resulted in a very little first layer to print with. Also I considered that overall material usage would be lower since I would not have to support the entire structure at once and could have numerous pieces closer to the ground.

As a result all printed pieces match provided files for resin printing and not FDM printing.

Print Data

For ALL FDM print profile settings used in this print build. Here is the Google Doc which lists them all.

Data shows combined walls and V2 roof sections. The V1 roof sections were not printed as I decided to print 3rd story version with the attached gable/attic. Overall if choosing the standard 3rd story version time and materials will be less due to not printing this extra piece.

Printer: Prusa mk3s
Filament: ESun PLA+ Grey
Layer Height: 0.1 mm
Time to Print all components: 20 hours 11 minutes
Filament to Print: 104.60 g
Estimated Cost to Print: $2.40

Below are images of renders of each piece rather than printed versions as I did not print these pieces for the project. Therefore Dimensions are only given and not print time or filament used.

Support Settings

Entire breakdown of support settings for Cura 4.8.0 are shown below (this should also work for Cura 4.9.0). These settings were used for all roof and wall sections.

Required Print Processes

The most notable difficulty is that ALL pieces of this set require rotation of opened STL file to be flat on the print bed when loading into your slicer. The largest thing to look out for is to make sure that the bottom of each base piece is flush against the build plate. This ensures a good solid layer of adhesion for your print and best success while printing. When looking for the side to put against the build plate look for the side that has no details.

Image below shows rotation of piece from Fishers Hut print logs but concept is same for Cottage as well.
